Who wants to preserve family memories for those who follow in our footsteps?

As I reflect on this past year of my writing challenge, 52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks, I have a sense of pride and a sense of accomplishment. For once this challenge ends, I will have 52+ stories about my family. Through this writing adventure, I have discovered so much about my ancestors and even a little about myself, and I hate to see it end!   Now, I have created a new writing challenge for 2018, but this time, I believe writers should also include more personal narratives to add their family history. To keep me moving forward on this journey, I have started a new writing challenge called My Tales. It would be fun to have family bloggers join in with this writing adventure. Who is with me?

Every month, I will place some new themes to write about to keep our family stories alive.  Also, I will include some personal ideas for personal narratives to add to our family tales.  If you would like to share your stories on my blog, just link your story in the comments, and I will add your blog site and your story to this page.  To find information about this writing challenge, just check the sidebar category, My Tales Writing Challenge 2018 and click on the picture, and it will link to the writing challenge information.

One thing I have discovered is that I have found some new blogging friends who have offered support and encouragement as I have shared my family tales. So let’s keep our writing adventures alive as we share them others who enjoy sharing and preserving family stories and traditions.

  1. I often write about my life’s experiences as my blogsite name also indicates it. 🙂 I enjoyed the story of your daughter. If everyone tells their own story we will have a good enjoyable story book, I guess.

  2. I am with you! I need to get my Family History Project organized and this sounds like the perfect venue. Plus I could see what other writers are doing. I may borrow your 52 ancestors challenge as well, if you don’t mind. 🙂

    1. It was not mine; I found out and it got me started. I t was from No Story too small from Amy Johnson Crow. I loved this challenge. Mix and match…just write and have fun! I look forward to your stories!

  3. I’ve been working on my lineage for a few years now and a few months ago started a site. It’s been a long haul. I hope our sites don’t get confused with our names. I’m Tales From My Lens and look forward to this challenge. I just have to finish up 365 Days then figure it all out how to join in. This should be interesting reading everyone’s stories.

  4. Hello Ann Marie and thanks for standing up this blog.

    I need to see other succeeding in this type of effort. After a series of elderly family members passed away, a few years back, my daughter challenged me to capture some of my own memories because I was concerned about how our family is mostly recalled only by oral stories being passed down.     My plan is to retell my memories in a first person, fun and mentally visual way. I limit each story to 2000 words or less so they can be consumed during a quick coffee break.

    I would appreciate any feedback from someone who is making it work.

    Your genealogy adventures sound like a full time job – a fun job, but a job none the less.

    1. I would love to check out your site. I started my site to preserve family stories too. Writing has been so much fun. Last year, I found an interesting challenge. Since the year is almost up, I wanted it to continue. I couldn’t find anything similiar, so I decided to start my own. Last year the challenge was to write a story once a week about various topics, so it easy pretty easy. Plus, I love to write and research.
