If I were going to change my name, I would change it to Aimee Marie. My mom wanted to give me this name in honor of a dear cousin who married a man with the surname Aime. My mom adored her cousin Mildren Allen Aime. Mildred’s parents were Samuel L. Allen and Mabel Vernice Trickel Allen. I still have the baby blanket my Aunt Mabel crocheted for me. Mabel lived across the road from my grandparents, Tom and Elva Allen, and my grandmother always stated that Mabel was a dear friend.

Family names have a way to connect us to our relatives who came before us and perhaps made the roads of our life a little easier to travel. But the very least to have one’s name passed on to the future is an act of love and respect. The name you have now or the other one your mother considered are both love and respect.

Absolutely, I am proud of my name, Ann Marie. I was named after my maternal great-grand-mothers. My middle name is Marie, and that name was passed from generation to generation too. Myr grandmother, Elva Marie; my mother, Dorothy Marie; me, Ann Marie; my daughter, Leslie Marie, and my granddaughter, Sierra Marie. And another granddaughter was given the name Jessica Ann. Ann in honor of me. And yes, I am one proud gramma.
