Helping others discover their roots
“There are two lasting bequests we can give our children: One is roots, the other is wings.” Teaching children values and giving them the opportunity to excel is essential to good parenting. However, I feel I must also provide my children (and myself) insight into the ones who came before us: our ancestors whose lives and stories have shaped us into who we are. This is my journey; these are their stories…

“And suddenly you know...it’s time to start something new and trust the magic of new beginnings” ---Meister Eckhart
I’ll be the first comment. At my age, my dad had already passed at the young age of 49. My mother remarried to the worst guy in the world. (Just about!). I was moved out, my mom had her own hairdressing business.

My parents separated and filed for divorce during my senior year. It was a difficult time; my father seemed to distance himself from us as well. Just before my 18th birthday, I left home to escape the pain and drama. When I think of my father, I see three different versions of him. The one I remember most fondly is the father who stopped drinking, became a scout leader, and embraced being a true family man. Those were the good times, and I try to hold on to those memories. Still, there are moments when I struggle and wonder why he chose to leave us.

Good for you being able to say it in the first place and I don’t know your age, but no matter that’s a part of healing. I must of hit something because my post was abruptly ended and I didn’t realize 🤷🏻♀️
