This prompt makes me smile, for I try to be grateful for each day and all that it offers. For me, here are a few of my everyday things that bring me happiness.
- Coffee with my pups. Yep, my pups. Every morning, I make coffee, bring it to bed, and begin my day. I often write, scan the news, or prepare for my workday. and well, the pups are in the mix because they try to steal my coffee. Cheeky little buggers.
- Working with my students – They have really made me feel extra special lately. I broke my ankle, and they all take turns fussing over me. Truly a blessing!
- Texts or calls from friends and family – As I get older, I realize how special these moments are.
- Walking outside and enjoying the sunshine and the fresh air.
- Night time, when I settle in for the night, surrounded by Max and Moo.

Wait !
You broke an ankle ?
This could be huge. How and how bad? My condolences of course but I want to know that you’ll be okay.
I was so sorry to hear this.

I broke or re-injured my ankle almost five weeks ago. I took my dogs on a walk on the prairie, stepped on some loose rocks, and rolled my ankle. According to my doc, I have an old break that did not heal correctly. He sent me in for an MRI last week, and I meet with him tomorrow. He thinks I may need surgery. So send prayers, lots and lots of prayers! and thanks for checking in with me.

Sigh . . .
I too have such an ankle, badly twisted when I was around 10. It now requires very little misuse to twist again. I never had it imaged and just baby it some.
Unfortunately, we need them both to function normally and doing my 10K steps each day burns a lot of my newly retired time and I count it a blessing that I’ve not re-twisted mine for many years now.
If I had you across a coffee table I’d recommend strong but stylish boots which go high enough to enforce where your ankle is allowed to flex – but once you yield to my wisdom we could switch back to writing and laugh about our plans, triumphs and frustrations.
Heal quickly & fully my friend.

Thanks for your kind words and encouragement.
Well, I went to the dr. again, and I will be in a boot for five more weeks. Then I will need to wear a brace and you nailed it high top ankle boots. I may have to get shots too to help with the pain.
He wants me to have surgery, but I talked him out of it for at least a year, so we can monitor it. Oh the joys growing old…lol

I don’t recall if I ever gave you my email address, but if I did that address is likely obsolete because it was my work email at Oracle Corp.
My new private email address is:
gary.a.wilson@outlook.com
It would make my day to find a note from you in that box. I check it almost every day and pings my mobile phone.
We should talk about our older bodies & surgery. Mine was a life saver with almost no recovery time needed despite being so old.
I could barely walk before it & now average 5 miles each day.
