Now, I would have done almost anything for Claude. He was that kind of friend. He had invested lots of time into training me and I trusted him. He would not to ask me to do anything illegal, immoral or (so I thought at the time) dangerous.

The Invention of the Sauna
I awoke very early and listened carefully. Was anyone awake? It was early Saturday morning, early fall and suddenly I could hear the furnace firing up, a sharp, small but clear explosion followed by the spinning up of the blower before settling down to only a quiet background hum, but no evidence of consciousness. The adventure awaited me, calling gently for my prompt attention. Keenly listening for anyone else, I pushed back my covers and crept into the night.

Pets are Family
My Hometown Island: Alameda, California

Sun swept beaches, glorious sunsets, fog horns sounding on cloudy mornings, and the calls of seagulls along the shores created the perfect hometown, and my childhood days passed on a perfect little island, nestled in the San Francisco Bay. Alameda had that hometown charm and the feel of a small town although Oakland and San Francisco were just miles away.
Although Alameda began as a peninsula, the powers that be decided they needed a canal to help expand the growing shipping industry. Work on this channel launched in 1874, and it was completed in 1902. Continue reading “My Hometown Island: Alameda, California”
