Helping others discover their roots
“There are two lasting bequests we can give our children: One is roots, the other is wings.” Teaching children values and giving them the opportunity to excel is essential to good parenting. However, I feel I must also provide my children (and myself) insight into the ones who came before us: our ancestors whose lives and stories have shaped us into who we are. This is my journey; these are their stories…

What a truly beautiful story you painted of your brother… such love you had for him and such love he had for everyone. Loved the pill bottle story… think I’ll have hubby do that for the grandchildren. I’m sure he smiled down as he heard your words. I shed tears in reading…

Thank you…I miss him so much. He loved it when we were kids and grandma would fill up the bottles with change. As soon as he became an uncle, he kept that tradition going. I know he would be tickled about the stories. He loved listening to the tales when we were kids, and he would have me read the stories I wrote. It was fun.

I had such a hard time finding an uncle to write about but it was a perfect topic for you!

I think this is one of those times when a virtual friend needs to give you a big virtual hug, perhaps until the tears slow. With this piece, you have honored Dave in a way that very few could. I think I would have liked this guy and wanted to be like him when I grow up.

How blessed you were to have him in your life, and how blessed he was to have you. A touching tribute, Ann Marie. Thank you for sharing this. (I now need to find a tissue…) 😉
