Sadly, my sisters were blind to her presence. They were too busy going for blood. Both my mom and I were just about to jump in and stop the brawl when—CRASH!—my sisters “took down” the Christmas tree.
Ornaments were catapulted through the air, exploding on impact. POP! POP! POP! My sisters were sprawled in the artificial tree, its “trunk” snapped by their combined weight.
A new beginning and starting over can refresh and invigorate our lives. Sometimes these moments transpire out of nowhere and can leave us feeling frustrated, frightened or alone. Three years ago, I had a little spitfire that entered into my sixth-grade class, and she was a teacher’s worst nightmare. Amelia had an infectious smile that was somewhat crooked in nature, for it veered off at awkward angles. When she was about to be naughty, her eyes would gleam, and she would give that crooked little smile. It was like a beacon to those around her that Amelia was about to rock someone’s world, and not for the better.
